MRRDA - Oran Park Round 1
30 Apr 2008
On Thursday the 10th of April, we left Bundaberg heading to Oran Park for round 1 of the MRRDA national series. After leaving Brisbane at 12:30 AM we arrived at the track at 1:00 PM and immediately unloaded the bike and managed to get four sessions on the track as part of a ride day. This proved very helpful because I was starting to get a feel for the track and a bit of rhythm. I had been to the track for the MRRDA last year but only rode the shorter figure 8 circuit.

The track was very good to ride with its hills, blind corners and long sweepers. I was really enjoying the track time there

First session on Saturday I was fastest and held that for the first two sessions before Brodie Waters on his Moriwaki 250 four stroke qualified first. I ended up qualifying in 5th because of a poor choice in suspension adjustment.

On Sunday it was warm-up then 3 races. In the morning warm-up I ran off turn 2 in the second lap and couldn’t get out so I pretty much missed that session. By race one we had it all sorted but I got a poor start and was in 8th into the first corner. After battling with Andy Lawson Jnr. I managed to pass him in the closing laps and get 4th place.

In Race 2 I also got a poor start and was in 7th place by turn 1. This race I was battling with Andy again, but the leaders Brodie Waters and Jake Horne were both having mechanical problems. Andy managed to finish in front in this race by 0.089 of a second.

In Race 3 the conditions were much more difficult because it had rained beforehand and we were going out on a drying track. It was hard because we didn’t know weather to put the wets on or not. The sun was drying it up pretty quickly so we chose to run slicks. I got an alright start and was in 5th going into turn 1. Matthew Walters and Brodie Waters must had chosen wets because they shot off and pull quite a gap in the first couple of laps. Jake Horne, Andy and I where battling until Jake pulled a slight gap over Andy and I. so I stayed behind in behind Andy trying to get his slip stream. After getting a good slip stream over the line for the last lap I went for it on turn 2. we were side by side into turn 3. I just managed to get by him and hold him off for the final lap. I ended up finishing in 3rd position.

After the racing was over we went and watched the juniors battle it out and then went to the presentation. I ended up with enough points to win the first round of the MRRDA putting Laro Leathers and I to the top of the MRRDA 125GP’s.

Catch ya next time.
